Scenic drive to Syabrubesi

Syabrubesi is the starting point of the trek. From Kathmandu, a long and scenic drive will lead you to Syabrubesi. During the drive, you will get to see lush green hills, terraced fields, and small settlements areas.

Relax in natural hot spring at Tatopani

In Tatopani village, you get to take a bath in a natural hot spring. However, you have to pay a few extra bucks. These hot springs are run by locals and are one of the means of earning money for them. The natural hot springs are said to be good for your skin and also removes skin diseases.

Beautiful trail decorated with rhododendron

During the trek, you pass by several forests, where you will see the national flower of Nepal, rhododendrons along many other floras. The region is likewise abundant in wildlife and famous for snow-leopard. If you are lucky, you might get to see one of the snow-leopards as well.

Rich culture and tradition of Tamang people

Day 1: Arrive Kathmandu airport and transfer to hotel

On your arrival at the airport, you get picked up by one of our team members. He will take you to the hotel that we have booked for you in advance. The rest of the day is free to relax and adjust to the atmosphere.

Wake up early with a freshly brewed cup of coffee and delicious breakfast. After that, you begin guided sightseeing tours of different UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Swayambhunath, Boudhnath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. Our experienced tour guide will help you know these places nicely. In the evening, you will prepare for the trip and arrange the gears.

Around 7:00 am, you begin driving towards the north of Kathmandu enjoying views of scenic foothills to Syabrubesi. Up to Trishuli Bazar, the drive is quite smooth then the route moves ahead on a gravel road.

Today is the first day of your trek. Trekking through culturally rich villages, you pass by Goljung and moves towards Gatlang. Gatlang is a lovely Tamang village set high on the hillside. You can visit the Tamang monastery and holy Parvatikundda Lake.

The trail offers superb views of Langtang Range and Ganesh Himal. You gradually ascend through the forested trail to Tatopani. Here, you will find natural hot springs, where you can take a bath paying a few bucks. It is believed that taking a dip into this spring would heal you from your aches and pains.

Continue trekking towards Thuman. As the trail passes by forests, you can see animals like monkeys and deer. Likewise, stunning views of Ganesh Himal, Langtang Range, Sanjen Range, Kerung, etc will accompany you on the way.

While trekking from Thuman to Timure, you can visit nearby historical Rasuwagadi. Today, you will get to observe Tibeto Burman Tamang culture in the two villages during trekking. You will reach Timure, an old trade route to Tibet. A fort here is a historical reminder of the Nepal Tibetan relations that have existed for many centuries.

After having breakfast, you begin trekking towards Briddim. It is a Tibetan Buddhist village, which has around 43 houses and spread in Z shape. People here are descendants of Tibetan immigrants, therefore their culture, tradition, lifestyle, and practices will look similar to Tibetans.

Today, you will trek back to Syabrubesi. Have breakfast and begin trekking towards Wangel. From here, you descend through small villages and terraced fields to reach Syabrubesi.

Tamang Heritage Trek itinerary

Tamang Heritage Trek begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubeshi. From Syabrubeshi, you ascend through lovely paddy fields and mani walls to Gatlang. The trail then leads you to Tatopani, where you get a chance to spend time in natural hot springs. Further, trekking through Bhote Koshi Valley enjoying outstanding landscape views, you traverse other Tamang villages and descend back to Syabrubeshi.

Tamang Heritage Trek difficulty

Tamang Heritage Trek is a relatively easy trek. As the trail ascends through paddy fields and forested paths, you have to be in good shape to go on Tamang Heritage Trekking. Even though there are no difficult steep sections to overcome, still, you have to walk for 5 to 6 hours a day minimum. Good health and stamina are needed to go on this trek.

Best time to go on Tamang Heritage Trek

Like most places, the best time to go on Tamang Heritage Trek is during spring and autumn. March to May falls under spring, whereas September to November falls under autumn. As the altitude is not high on this trek, Tamang Heritage Trek is also a good option for trekking in the winter season.

Food & Accommodation during Tamang Heritage Trek

During Tamang Heritage Trek, you stay overnight in the teahouse or lodge. They provide a warm comfortable bed and healthy, filling food. In some places, you will stay at home with the locals. Rooms will be basic everywhere and on a twin-sharing basis most of the time.

Meals will be served as per the menu of the teahouse/lodge. Dishes like dal bhat, veggies, curries, momo, dhindo, etc can be found in the teahouse/lodge. You can also find tea, coffee, snacks, bars, and other beverages.
